This course is designed to help all health professionals understand how to safely handle antineoplastic drugs and related waste.


About

Handling antineoplastic drugs and related waste is the first module of the Antineoplastic Drug Administration Course (ADAC).

There are three versions of the module available which recognise the different scope of practice for different health care professionals.‚Äč The clinical services module is available on the ADAC homepage or the Antineoplastic drug administration for the non-cancer setting homepage

Additional Information


The Competency checklist for non clinical staff can be completed by a designated workplace assessor.

Certificates are only awarded once the Competency checklist has been completed. Each certificate is a PDF template and needs to have the participants name and date of completion recorded and signed by the assessor completing the competency checklist. 

The certificate provided by the assessor is dependant on which module is completed.

What you will achieve

  • How to identify hazardous drugs including antineoplastic drugs and monoclonal antibodies, sources of waste and routes of excretion
  • Understanding of legislation and relevant guidelines for safe handling of antineoplastic drugs and related waste
  • Knowledge of the potential hazards associated with the handling of antineoplastic drugs and related waste
  • How to implement safe practices to minimise exposure of staff/patients/carers to antineoplastic drugs and related waste 
  • Knowledge of guidelines  on safe handling, disposal, transport and storage of antineoplastic drugs and related waste
  • Knowledge of health surveillance requirements for staff handling antineoplastic drugs and related waste
