This resource is for all health professionals and families who care for children and/or adolescents undergoing cancer treatment or haematopoietic stem cell transplant.

It provides an understanding of how to effectively manage a child and/or adolescent with mucositis.


About

This course presents an overview of what mucositis is, how it may develop and how to identify, monitor and prevent it.


Modules

This module uses a case study to describe the management of mucositis.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe what mucositis is
  • Describe the triggers and contributing factors in developing mucositis
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of mucositis
  • List common tools used to assess and monitor oral health
  • Describe preventative techniques
  • Identify practical nursing implications
  • Identify other considerations in caring for a patient with mucositis
