In the normal cellular environment, immune checkpoints are part of the body’s self-protection system and help prevent autoimmunity. Immune checkpoint inhibitors are a cancer treatment which unleash the full force of the immune system by turning off the checkpoints and may cause immune related adverse events (irAEs). irAEs can affect any system, present at any time and can be life threatening. Head to module 3 to learn more about how to monitor patients for irAEs.
