UPDATE: Managing cardiac devices in radiation oncology practice

Learn

Our Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) Rapid Learning has been updated with new content, tools and resources to reflect recent practice change. The new version features updated flowcharts to aid decision making as well as an interactive PDF assessment form and table to reflect the change in dividing patients into assessment and monitoring intervention levels.

The 5-minute mini-module will help you:

  • differentiate between a pacemaker and an ICD
  • differentiate between patients that are pacemaker dependent and non-dependent
  • describe potential CIED malfunctions
  • recognise when and how to assess a patient’s risk of CIED malfunction
  • identify radiation therapy planning considerations to minimise the risk of CIED malfunction
  • determine the appropriate management (including monitoring requirements) of patients with a CIED.

ANZCHOG and Blood conferences

It's been great connecting with the cancer community at recent conferences, including Blood last month and ANZCHOG in July where we hosted a workshop with over 100 paediatric nurses to better understand their education needs.

COSA + pharmacy workshop

We're looking forward to rounding the year out with the COSA ASM in Brisbane next month. Please come and say hi if you're attending the conference!

We will also host a session at the COSA Cancer Pharmacists Group (CPG) Clinical Development Day to workshop how the very first cancer pharmacy ADAC will be implemented. eviQ subscribers can register for the discounted delegate fee of $80 for the full day workshop.

ADAC update

We are making good traction with content writing for all streams of ADAC V4 and only have a few modules left to write!

Adult and Paediatric streams: Module 5 raw content is currently out for review, closing on Monday 17 October. Module 6 will be the next out for review, followed by our final module 4.
Pharmacy stream: Module 6 raw content is being internally reviewed. Module 4 will be our next out for review followed by our final module 7.

CVAD videos coming

We are in the final stages of producing eight videos demonstrating how to safely work with CVADs to reduce the risk of complications - including occlusions and CVAD related infections. The videos have been developed with our SME Kerrie Curtis, a cancer nurse for over 30 years, specialising in vascular access and we can't wait to share them with you soon!
