Rapid listening

You asked for more varied and more interactive learning opportunities, so here are the first episodes in our new in-house podcast series.

The series provides insight into a range of cancer topics as host, Lisa McLean, chats with a variety of experts and professionals working in cancer care. The chats are très informal, so be prepared to relax as you listen and learn.

Episode 1: If I knew then what I know now – reflecting on clinical challenges

– with Christopher Horn, Program Manager of the National Bowel Cancer screening program for NSW.

In this episode, Lisa & Chris chat about the challenges of working in the clinical environment, and about their experiences transitioning out of clinical—with a pinch of career paths and personal insight thrown in.

Episode 2: Understanding complementary medicines and their potential interactions with cancer treatments

- with Dr Geeta Sandhu, cancer pharmacist and eviQ content author.

This episode touches on treatments, interactions, tips and resources that can help you support patients using complimentary and alternative medicine.

Episode 3: Introduction to haematology and bone marrow transplant

- with Tejnei Vaishnav, haematology nurse and eviQ content author.

Types of blood cancer, transplants, treatment options, CAR T cells and much, much more. In this episode, Tej talks blood cancer for beginners.

Episode 4: Improving patient experiences with remote video assisted chemotherapy (RVAC)

– excerpts from the 2019 Cancer Institute NSW Innovations conference.

In this episode, skilled cancer care professionals, Cherie Seeliger & Marnie Wilson, provide insight into how RVAC is improving cancer treatment experiences for rural cancer patients like Crystal.

 Malnutrition in cancer

This reviewed and revamped resource is a collaboration between the Victorian Cancer Malnutrition Collaborative, the Dieticians Association of Australia & eviQ Education. 

Created for cancer services clinicians, it’s designed to improve awareness, recognition and understanding of malnutrition and to improve screening and early management of this high risk patient group.

Did you know?

RVAC clients in the Western NSW LHD have saved over 800 hours of travel time.​

Remote video assisted chemotherapy (RVAC) was introduced in the district less than 2 years ago. Since then, they have administered more than 200 treatments to 26 patients and saved them about 68,000 km travelling.
